Nothing leaves your device

video − audio

Silence a video without touching a single frame

The audio track is simply left out and the picture is copied across as it is. Nothing gets recompressed, so this finishes almost immediately even on large files.

What happens when you drop a file in

  1. The file stays put. Your browser opens it the same way an image viewer would. There is no transfer, which is why there is no upload bar to watch.

  2. An encoder arrives once. The first job on this site pulls down a compiled build of FFmpeg, roughly 30 MB. It is kept afterwards, so every job after the first starts immediately.

  3. Your own hardware does the job. The work happens in this tab, on your processor. A laptop from the last few years handles short clips in well under real time.

  4. The result lands in Downloads. Assembled in memory and handed straight to your browser. Close the tab and every trace of it is gone.

Three reasons people need this

Copyright is the most common. A clip filmed at a gig, in a shop or with a radio playing somewhere behind you will be flagged on upload even though the music was entirely incidental. Removing the track removes the trigger.

Replacement is the second. Editors routinely strip original sound before laying a voiceover or a licensed track underneath, because starting from silence avoids anything bleeding through where it should not.

The third is simply unwanted noise — wind across a microphone, handling sounds, or a conversation in the background that was never meant to be public.

Why this one is over before you notice

Muting does not require compressing anything. The video stream is copied byte for byte and the audio is omitted, so what comes back is identical to the original minus one track. Even a large file completes in seconds, and the picture is not merely close to the original — it is the original.

Common questions

Does the picture change at all?

Not in any way. The video data is copied exactly.

Can I mute just part of it?

No, this removes the whole track. Partial muting needs an editor with a timeline.

Will this clear a copyright claim?

It removes the audio that automatic detection responds to. It does nothing about claims on the footage itself.

Does anything get uploaded?

No, nothing leaves the machine at any stage.
